Civil Rights Leader, Septima Clark was committed to using education for empowerment. As a school teacher she initiated various community empowerment programmes ranging from those which helped African Americans on low income develop basic consumer skills, to those which helped register voters. Tens of thousands of those who participated in her initiatives became involved in desegregation movements across the South.         Septima Clarke
