Police organise Forest Hill shooting PR meeting

By The Ligali Organisation | Wed 22 February 2012

The metropolitan police are holding a public meeting to discuss their recent shooting of a twenty five year old African. The IPCC are expected to be present.

The young man was first tasered with a stun gun delivering fifty thousand volts into his torso. The police officers then unleashed their bullets several times into his body causing abdomen, leg and hand injuries. He remains in King’s College Hospital receiving treatment.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is currently investigating the shooting and will be working closely with the force on this matter.

A statement on the website of the Metropolitan Police Force reads;

“At around 0540 hrs on Sunday 19 February, police were called to reports by members of the public of a man attempting to break in to a car in Elsinore Road, SE23.

Local officers attended and attempted to approach the man who then threatened them with a large bladed weapon.

The officers retreated and called for further units to assist including firearms officers. The man then approached officers on Stanstead Road threatening them with the weapon.

Firearms officers attended the scene, and both taser and firearms were used, which resulted in the man receiving gun shot wounds.

London Ambulance Service attended and took the man to hospital. He is critical but stable.”

Suspicious circumstances

This meeting is the second called by the police following an earlier impromptu event held at St George’s Church following the incident.

IPCC Commissioner Mike Franklin has claimed:

“We are determined to thoroughly scrutinise the circumstances surrounding this shooting and the community can assist by coming forward with any information they may have regarding this incident.

“I would urge anyone who can provide information to contact the IPCC by email at foresthill@ipcc.gsi.gov.uk or on freephone 0800 096 9077.”

The IPCC continues to suffer from a loss of public confidence following its failure to properly investigate Police involvement in the deaths of David “Smiley Culture” Emmanuel and Mark Dugan, both which was marred by incompetence and possible/likely racism.
