G4S killers of Jimmy Mubenga to escape prosecution

The Crown Prosecution Service has said that it will not charge the three security officers responsible for the death of an African man on a deportation flight

Jimmy Mubenga, 46 was killed on a refugee deportation flight to Angola in October 2010. His death occurred after he lost consciousness following the aggressive assault of G4S staff on British Airways flight 77.

Jimmy who a witness has revealed had complained of breathing problems before he collapsed, was taken to hospital after the plane was cancelled, where he was pronounced dead.

The three G4S guards who were working on behalf of the British government have been told they will not face manslaughter charges as the CPS claims it has insufficient evidence to prove their actions had a substantive role in Jimmy’s cause of death.

A witness told the Guardian newspaper the three security guards were on top of the petrified African man for 45 minutes and that he had he had heard Jimmy repeatedly say “They're going to kill me.”

History of Abuse

In the same week as this was announced, PC Simon Harwood, a police officer with a violent history of abusing his authority was cleared of manslaughter charges on the basis that his actions had a minimal contribution to the death of innocent bystander Ian Tomlin son.

PC Harwood’s disciplinary history included allegations that he punched, throttled, kneed, threatened and unlawfully arrested people. They show he avoided disciplinary proceedings despite an alleged road rage incident that left to him temporarily resigning owing to ill health.

As with the Metropolitan Police Force, G4S is one of the many private security firms employed by the state which has been plagued by reports of brutal, inhumane treatment and neglect of its detainees.
