Sci-fi fans, Toyin Agbetu and award-winning novelist, Courttia Newland have organised two events challenging the parameters of African science fiction, by asking what it is, where it comes from and what it could be, with discussions, stories, poetry and film. Who's making waves in the genre? How do ancestral cultures and traditions inform the contemporary artist, and how do they engage with a 'western' canon?

Engaging the audience are leading artists in this field, including one of the UK’s first African female sci-fi authors, Tosin Coker, author and Granta contributor Biram Mboob, filmmaker Kibwe Tavares and playwright Oladipo Agboluaje. The sessions will be chaired by Words of Colour’s executive director Joy Francis and community educator, Toyin Agbetu.
