Caramel Film Club presents Clemency

An honest discussion on miscarriages of justice through the lens of the film Clemency and BLM will draw parallels between the killing of Mark Duggan in the UK and George Floyd in the US.

To mark the anniversary of the killing of Mark Duggan by British Police on 4 August 2011, The Caramel Film Club in collaboration with Birds Eye View’s Reclaim The Frame will be discussing the critically acclaimed film Clemency by Chinonye Chukwu with Channel 4 News journalist Keme Nzerem, who covered Duggan’s death and the resulting uprising across England that followed in 2011. The event will take place on Tuesday 4 August 2020, from 7.00pm - 7.30pm.

The session will be led by award-winning writer Be Manzini who will perform a commissioned poem in response to the film then facilitate a creative writing workshop for us all to engage with, using exercises that look at ways in which protest slogans and rally calls have used poetics in order to reach and impassion minds, and then giving viewers space to write their own.
