On 21 March 1981, two members of the United
Klans of America forced nineteen year
old Michael Donald into their car. After
being kidnapped he was beaten, his throat
cut and his body hung from a tree. In
1987 a jury found the Ku Klux Klan responsible
and sentenced them to pay seven million
dollars to Donald’s mother. His
murderer was executed in 1991, the first
non African executed for a crime against
an African American since 1913.
