The Lynching of Nease and John Gillespie, Jack Dillingham, Henry Lee and George Irwin
     

This photograph shows five African American men who have been lynched, North Carolina, 6 August 1906. Nease and John Gillespie, Jack Dillingham, Henry Lee and George Irwin are the victims of a brutal era where African Americans were frequently unprotected by the law, murdered by non Africans and denied justice by the American criminal justice system.
