In Omaha, Nebraska on 28 September 1919 a mob of over five thousand Americans surrounded and attacked a county court house and seized an innocent African American accused of assaulting a ‘white’ girl. The mob mutilated him, shooting him over a thousand times before burning his body. Subsequently there were twenty five major race riots across the US in the last six months of 1919. The taking of 'trophy' photos was popular at this time.
