During the 1930s, the Ku Klux Klan were a public organisation with their members committing atrocities across America and not as previously assumed, confined to the Deep South. On 7 August 1930, an American mob seized two African American teenagers from a county court jail and armed with baseball bats, firearms, crowbars and other such weapons beat the two young men to death. The taking of 'trophy' photos was popular at this time.
