(Malcolm X) writer, political activist
and teacher, LeRoi Jones embraced African
culture and identity, changing his name
to Amiri Baraka. He was widely known as
one of the most influential African American
intellectuals in the 1950’s and
1960’s when he became famous for
his poetry, plays and books. His is pictured
here with his wife Amina also a poet and
freedom fighter.
