Review:
CD: Be Free

By Tasha Caesar | Sun 20 March 2011

I’m walking through Stratford, London when I come across a sista with a beautiful smile offering passerby copies of her music for purchase. I ask her if it has any obscenities, she responds “no” and within minutes I am walking away with a copy of the independently produced CD – Be Free (Tabot Entertainment/Proprioception)

Tasha Caesar: Be Free

It’s difficult for new UK artists to make a mark amongst the mess of urbanality on release but with a very distinctive production sound vocalist Tasha Caesars’ vocals float above a delicious selection of retro electronic funk produced by the talented Navigator. From the too short - The More I Want - to the quirky - Be Free, Tasha manages to achieve what many of her contemporaries cannot – originality.

Just as when researching the true genesis’s of Jazz, with electro funk it is worth noting that the US is not the only place where you can find creative musical geniuses like Georgia Anne Muldrow holding the crown. Keep an eye on the likes of Reel People, 4Hero and now Tasha with the mysterious Navigator/Endgameone, for it would seem that the UK now has a growing army of worthy contenders.
